I officially started practicing Forest Therapy in the fall of 2024. However, it probably started for me in my younger days. My undergraduate degree is in Biology and after college, I went to work with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. One of the environments I worked in was the horticulture industry. I spent a lot of time in florist coolers, greenhouses and open fields of plants. I even got to roam around Christmas tree lots as part of my work! I eventually moved from that to the field of counseling where I helped people find their way to mental health and well-being.

Fast forward to the summer of 2024 when I attended a retreat that partially took place in a forest. It was magical! A seed was planted that got watered by a friend when I told her about my experience. She said that she thought Forest Therapy would be a good fit for me and I said, “Tell me more”. That ‘more’ led me to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT) and my first Forest Therapy Walk as a participant. It was another magical moment! I began my certification as a Forest Therapy Guide with ANFT in the fall of 2024.

In this practice of Nature/Forest Therapy, I get to combine skills, knowledge and experience that I’ve been accumulating for almost 40 years! It’s my pleasure to guide individuals and groups through an experience of opening doors to nature within and around them. There is lots of research to demonstrate the benefits of this practice, but I invite you to experience it!
